email from Dannye Newberry 17 March 2006:

Lucy Newberry Pitts' son was a doctor in Birmingham. We did not get to meet them as they were out of country when we were there.

You missed a lot, not knowing Lucy. She was sharp as a tack well past 100. She told us lots of stories of her family and the family of Lawrence Winfield Scott Newberry, that lived near them in Birmingham area.

She did see her father, Z.T. after the divorce from Julia, but not much. She refused to see him the last time he was in Birmingham area, and she told us she had regretted it since. Act in haste, repent in leasure, I guess. There must have been a lot of hard feelings as in any break-up.

She did come and stay in Acklin Gap for a while, after Z.T. died and they were dividing the estate. I have the receipt where she got her money at that time. Most of the kids received some money, Although the younger ones came of age after the reccession--don't know if that affected them.
