Note

In 1850 John Newberry was living in Cherokee County, AL. The family moved to
Craighead Co. AR and then to Greene Co., AR in the mid 1850's.
He served from 25 Oct 1861 to 1862 in the 3rd Regiment, Arkansas Calvary, Co.
G. CSA.

Carey Rogers lists the date of death as 21 Oct 1862 while on the retreat from a
battle in Corinth, Mississiippi. Confederate troops were cuttng trees on the
road to slow the pursuit by Federal Troops. John Newberry was killed when one
of the trees fell on him.
